Kernan Hospital Announces Appointment of New Chief Medical Officer
Kernan has announced the appointment of Roy T. Smoot, Jr., MD, FACS, as vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer. Dr. Smoot, who recently served as the chief medical officer at Maryland General Hospital, replaces Michael Jablonover, MD, MBA, FACP.
Kernan Hospital Announces Appointment of New CEO
Kernan Hospital has announced the appointment of Michael Jablonover, MD, MBA, FACP, as president and CEO. Dr. Jablonover, who currently serves as Kernan's vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer, replaces James E. Ross, FACHE, Kernan's leader since 1994.
Designed as a fun-filled day for individuals with physical disabilities and their families, the day will include chances to participate in hand cycling, wheelchair volleyball, wheelchair basketball, a wheelchair slalom course, and adapted golf. There will also be a quad rugby demonstration. Bert Burns, a former paralympian, is the lunchtime keynote speaker. Live music by the band Memphis Gold will begin at 2 p.m.

Kernan Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Hospital nurses Lori Mooney, RN, BSN and Barbara Hennigan, RN, BSN were recently honored along with nurses from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia at Nursing Spectrum's Excellence Awards 2009 Gala, held at Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland. Kernan was a Silver Sponsor of the event.

Kernan Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital will enhance the way in which it delivers health care when it becomes the first hospital in the University of Maryland Medical System to use Portfolio, a state-of-the-art, totally electronic medical records system for all inpatients beginning May 30, 2009.
